Team USA is the representative in the American Football Youth World Cup of the United States of America. Before Team Japan, they were the strongest American football team at the high school level. As a whole, Team USA serves as the main antagonist of the Youth World Cup Arc.
Overview[]
Team USA is the all-star team representing the United States of America in the American Football Youth World Cup. Considered the favorite to win the tournament by far, Team USA easily advances to the finals of the tournament to face Team Japan. The five star players of the team who form the Pentagram are the best high school players in their respective positions. They are considered by the best in the world.
The substitute players are lead by Homer Fitzgerald, and are sent out by Donald Oberman when he determines the enemy team is too weak or too boring for the starters to go against. As a whole, the team has a flair for the dramatic - that is, they like to make a show out of their games, especially because so much is expected from the team representing the country from which American football originated.
As a whole, they hold a lot of pride and high standards, being the top of the top, chosen from thousands of players who applied, and the 1.5 million total players in the country, a number that may or may not include those at the high school level. At least between the members of the Pentagram, there is trust the others are capable and talented. They are aware of what their teammates are able to do and, though there are occasional disagreements, seem to get along just fine.
Team USA's captain is Donald Oberman, but the player who tends to make plans and precise predictions is Clifford D. Lewis.
Recruiting Players[]
Tryouts are overseen and judged by Morgan. It can be inferred from Panther begging Morgan to let Homer do the tryout that it's either difficult to access or limited to recommendations and personal selection by Morgan and the NFL. It can be assumed these tryouts are the same standard ones. Because of Morgan's cocky, arrogant and entitled nature, he tends to judge many players before they even do the tryout.

The Pentagram is a group consisting of the team's five best players.
Clifford D. Lewis (#1)[]
Team USA's quarterback. His play style isn't too dissimilar to that of Yoichi Hiruma, though his pride sometimes gets in the way of him making more effective plays and better analyses. He most frequently passes to Bud or hands off the ball to Panther, taking a lot of risks. His mentality is to keep going and looking deranged until everyone else gives up, not wanting to take part in the massive risks and in-game gambles he takes. However, he is not so prideful he is a sore loser. Clifford does, however, acknowledge talent and skill when he sees it, and invited Sena to study at Notre Dame High, though it was only for the second half of the Japanese academic year and the first half of the American academic year.
Patrick "Panther" Spencer (#22)[]
Team USA's running back. He is called "the Fastest Black Panther Above Ground,[1]" and, prior to Sena's final boost in speed at the end of the series, the fastest human alive. He serves as Sena's final and ultimate rival, both of their respective builds and play styles focusing on speed, evasion and touchdowns. He is the only member of the Pentagram who doesn't have an outward sense of pride and arrogance because he's on the American team. He loves a challenge, and had spent roughly 8 months preparing for an international, official match against Sena. Panther is the most humble member of the group and most friendly. His speed statistic is labelled as "SS.[2]"
Bud Walker (#31)[]
Team USA's cornerback. Bud Walker is a classmate of Clifford at Notre Dame High. He can play as wide receiver or cornerback, making him Monta's biggest rival in the series. Bud's style of playing as wide receiver is using his speed, strength, and height to gain the advantage over his opponent. His strength, precision and height allow him to catch the football thrown from Clifford over Team Japan's heavyweight players, unprepared, with relative ease. Bud's abilities weren't in the spot light as much as some of the others of the Pentagram, so the full extent of his abilities was never shown. Thanks to Bud, Monta was able to use his new technique, the Devil Backfire Neo.
Tatanka (#47)[]
Team USA's linebacker. He is best known for his height and consequential catching range, which earned him the nickname "the Human Dome.[3]" He has a similar kind of pride to Clifford, a pride that can be seen among almost all the members of the Pentagram, but can back up his pride with ability and skill. His primary rival and biggest threat during the match against Team Japan was Haruto Sakuraba, who bested him eventually.
Donald Oberman/Mr Don (#69)[]
Team USA's lineman, captain, and the most physically powerful member of the team. His massive size and strength allow to crush plays, players, and even lines. It took the combined strength of Takeru Yamato and Rikiya Gao to give him a blue sky (meaning to throw him onto his back so he's facing up toward the blue sky). He is the most prideful of the team, the proudest and perhaps the most arrogant. However, he does not like to hold back when he fights, stating that fighting everyone with all your strength is "the way of those who stand on the top," and warns Panther against going easy on Sena just because they are friends.[4] He serves as the main obstacle for every member of Team Japan throughout the entire match but is shown as the American rival of both Yamato and Rikiya.
